When we have our initial consultation, I'll ask for your top three priorities, and will design the painting around those. It can be anything: you, a couple of people, the venue windows, etc.

Keep your painting hung away from harsh sunlight. Even with lightfast, high-quality paints. Keeping it away from the sun is a way to ensure your heirloom will last for years!

I paint on gallery wrapped canvas, which is not necessary to be framed in order to look stunning on your walls. If you prefer a frame, I have black, white, and natural floater frames available at an additional cost.

+ What's it like to work with you? Who is your work for?

I tend to every commission with so much care because I want you to love your piece.

You're hiring me for MY VISION and my PERSONAL STYLE, and it's something that I don't take lightly. I truly appreciate that the way that I make marks and my subject matter speaks to you and I can't wait to create something with my intuition, inspiration, and artistic expression. Thank you for trusting me!

One of my priorities is to connect to your vision and yourself as a person. I zero in on the project and work efficiently once I begin. It brings me so much joy to see my work connect with you. By now I'm sure you've checked out my Gallery page and the rest of my website and have a good idea of what you can expect.

My work is expressive, impressionistic, and intuitive. By allowing me the freedom to respond to the vision and inspiration without a lot of direction, my work turns rich and inspired. I am happy to work with you on a color palette!

My work is best suited for people who like a bit of abstraction and spontaneity... people who love to be surprised and delighted and who connect with the work I've already done and want something like that for themselves.

+ Who is not a good fit for your commissions?

My commissions are not very well suited to people who want to have a high degree of control over the final piece. It's also not a good fit for those who want a painting that looks like it came from a different artist.

I'm happy to define a color palette and work within a general inspiration picture or subject, but as the painter, it is my job to maintain the balance, expression, and artistic direction of each of my pieces.

+ Can you make prints from the original?

Absolutely! Prints can be made as full size copies or smaller, on wrapped canvas, rolled canvas, or paper. This may add time to the process, since it involves professional scanning and proofing.

+ Can I make my own prints and use your work on my blog?

While you own the painting, I still maintain ownership of the rights to the painting. This means you may not reproduce the work without my explicit written permission.

If you'd like to feature my work online, please feel free! Just tag me when appropriate, either my social media handle or my website.

+ When will I receive my painting?

Oil paintings take a very long time to dry, so it may be necessary to expect them to ship 4-8 weeks after they're completed.

+ Can you paint more like [insert artist]?

I can tighten or loosen my own style and develop a color palette that works for your space, but I cannot attempt the style of another artist.

+ Can you copy this painting for me?

I am happy to use a painting you love as inspiration, but I cannot copy the work of another artist. Not only is it unethical, it is also impossible to attempt to change my own handwriting in a painting. If you'd like me to copy one of my own paintings, I can use the same palette and similar perspective, but since each piece I do is intuitive, no two paintings will ever be the same.

+ Can you make up a scene?

Within reason. It's important to me in my work to stay true to laws of perspective, value, and color. These can absolutely be exaggerated for effect however.

+ Can you paint this idea in my head?

Please understand that when you commission an artist, you are hiring them to use their artistic vision to convey a concept.

If you are thinking of hiring me, please take a look at my portfolio page to get a feel for my style and how I approach my subject. If you absolutely love it, please fill out the application form on the Commissions page and I'll be in touch when a spot opens up!
